Doors, Doors Everywhere!
With the different types of wood, plastic and glass available every door in your home can be as unique as you. With so many choices it’s hard to decide which doors to use for which part of your house. Some doors are best for smaller areas, while other are best if you want lots of natural light. In order to decide which doors are best for you, you need to look at the room you have, the opening and what you want your door to do for your room.
The standard interior door is a wood hinged door. These are best used for rooms that you want privacy in, typically Bedrooms and Bathrooms. These doors are one piece and are attached by a hinge so they either open into or out a room with a simple doorknob used to the open the door that can be used to lock it from the inside or outside with a key. These doors can be painted, stained or have panels added to add a personal touch but are normally just left as plain wood as they are for function not for architectural flair.
Bi folding doors can be great for open concept floors plans. This way when you want privacy for a room you can unfold them along their track to divide a room, but can also be folded back to enjoy the full expanse of the room without doors getting in the way. Pocket doors are similar to bi folding doors except when they are opened they are actually designed to slide into the walls and hide away so that you don’t see them. These are great for small places as you don’t have to worry about the room that the door on a hinge would take up. These are often used for Powder Rooms or closets in Bedrooms.
Another type of door typically used for closets are Luan doors. These like bi folding doors run on a track. They consist of two panels which can be slid behind each other. They are great except for you will always have one portion of the entrance hidden as the doors can only slide from side to side and don’t fold up against the door opening.
If you want to add some privacy into large open rooms such as your master bedroom or in a studio, bachelor condo sliding folding doors are the way to go. These doors are on a track so they slide and then fold upon themselves so that you can leave a room open concept or “hide” parts of the room when you have company over. These doors can be made of different material such as wood or fabric to add both a visual element and a sense of privacy to a room.
If you want an open airy feeling but want privacy as well often French Doors. Most people think of french doors as a set of two doors but it can consist of just one door as well. They are made of a wooden frame with clear, frosted or tempered glass inserts which allow for natural light to pass through, but still omits a feeling of privacy. French Doors can be either hinged or on a track to slide open. Either way these doors ad an open concept feeling and a touch of elegance to any room.
Patio Doors come in all shapes and sizes depending on what you want. They can be either sliding or hugged and can consist of multiple doors or just one. Often to let in natural light these doors are made of glass or are wood frames with glass inserts. It doesn’t matter which type of door you choose to install for patio doors it is advisable that you also get a type of screen door as well. These are great for in the warmer weather to let a breeze into the house without letting bugs or other pests come in as well.
Screen doors also come in both hinge and sliding door so that they can match the type of glass door you get for your patio doors.
Exterior doors come in different materials and designs as well. You have your options of wood, steel or either wood or steel frame with glass inserts. You can choose to have a large door, 2 doors or a combination of a door and window inserts depending on what the front of your house looks like. These doors can be stained, painted or have designs to make them more aesthetically pleasing. Typically front exterior doors are hinged doors as they are easier to keep secure with locks and dead bolts. It is also advisable to as screen doors as well so you can open your front door for light without letting people walk right in.
it doesn’t matter what type of door you choose as long as it functional for what you want. Look around at the different types of doors and prices and what each one can bring to your room or home before deciding. Each door is as personal and unique as you and your home.
